1. The Competition

The Video Poem Competition of La Factorie (hereinafter the ’Competition’) is a video poem competition organised by La Factorie Maison de Poésie de Normandie.

The 3rd Video Poem Competition of La Factorie with the theme « Singing of the rivers » will take place in La Factorie on May 26 2023, during the opening of a poetry festival POESIA.

There will be additional screenings of the selected films for pupils of partner schools during the POESIA festival from May 15 until June 4.

2. Competition categories

The Competition has only one category where all the selected films will compete.

3. Terms and conditions for participation

The film must be centred around a poem, which can be conveyed by any means, auditive or visual. There are no limits to the creation time of the film.

The Competition is open to films created in any film technique. However, the duration must be at most 7 minutes of the total running time. Only completed films will be taken into consideration in the preselection process.

All films selected will be screened without entitlement to screening fees.

4. Submission

The submission process is free of charge. Owners of screening rights (hereinafter the “submitters”) may submit their films to the 3rd edition of the Competition until April 1, 2023.

If the submitters do not provide an online screening link of a submitted film, they will be disqualified from the selection process. All submitters will be notified about the preselection results by May 1, 2023, at the latest.

5. Screening copies

A screening copy must be provided of the films that are selected. The selected films will be screened in MP4/MOV.

All selected films will be screened in the original language and must be provided with English/French subtitles if they are in a language other than English/French. In any case, subtitles both in English and French are highly recommended.

The final date for receipt of screening copies for the Competition is May 8, 2023.

Submitters are obliged to follow the instructions for the delivery of copies of selected films. The instructions will be enclosed in a letter confirming a film’s selection for the Competition. Submitters will send screening copies of the selected films in the requested format immediately after receiving detailed instructions from the Competition organisers.

6. Jury and awards

The jury will be composed of the poet-residents of the 2022/2023 season in La Factorie House of Poetry. They will cast votes to choose the winning film for the Competition.

No jury member may have been involved in the production or distribution of a film which they have to evaluate.

The result of the jury will be announced at the award ceremony during the opening of the festival POESIA on May 26, 2023. The jury and/or organisers may award special mentions. The winner of the Competition will receive the award Prix du Meilleur Vidéo-Poème with prize money of 500 euros.

7. Guest invitations

The director whose film is selected for the programme will be invited to the festival. Entry to the festival is free of charge for the makers of the film as well as for the general public.

The directors of the three best films will be offered accommodation for May 26 (at least one person per film). Hospitality terms for invited guests of the Competition shall be arranged individually and specified in their invitations by email.
